This 3.5 day workshop will prepare those who have cosmetology training or professional experience working in film and television hair and makeup departments.
This workshop will provide trainees with:
Hands-on training experience in film/TV hair or makeup techniques and concepts
Basic Set 101 instruction so that graduates feel prepared to work on an actual set
Techniques for collaborating and working with actors, directors, and other departments
An understanding of departmental roles and operations
Knowledge of what Makeup Kits/supplies entail
Experience and feedback in character creation and specialized skills
Upon successful completion of this intensive workshop, participants will be referable for assistant positions on upcoming film and television productions.
Pre-requisites: Professional experience or previous training in hair and makeup, or transferable experience in these areas. No film/tv production experience is necessary. Stockade Works is particularly seeking diverse members of the community and women who are typically precluded from jobs in the film production sector. In order to attend workshops participants must be 18 years of age or older.

INSTRUCTORS:
Kingston Native and lover of all things local, Jennifer Donovan was a graduate of SUNY New Paltz studying Public Relations and Business. All the while, she was working as a hair stylist and salon coordinator for the infamously known hair stylist to the rock and roll world, Mark Ferraro. While working with Mark Ferraro, Jennifer was able to work first hand with the great creatives that migrated to Woodstock and the Catskill region. After college, Jennifer continued to work on large scale productions as a designer and the Head of the Hair and Makeup Department at the Fisher Center at Bard College. She was also a hair and makeup artist for on and off Broadway productions and continues works with American Ballet at the Metropolitan Opera House. With several years of theatre, film, daily styling experiences, and endless connections in the industry, Jennifer continues to train and hire staffing to provide expertise skill sets to local productions, businesses, and stylists. Jennifer is the owner of Le Shag salon and training Academy in Kingston, NY.
Christal Schanes has a M.F.A. from UNC School of the Arts in Wig & Makeup Design. She is an Emmy Award winning Hairstylist for her work on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live!”. Christal has worked on many film and television productions as well as building custom entertainment wigs for celebrities and medical wigs for those in need, through her business CHRISTALine Studios. Her passion for sharing knowledge brought her back to UNCSA in 2012 to teach. Christal is an innovator at heart and a designer by trade for which she is currently prototyping new product that will launch on her website CHRISTALineStudios.com later this year.
Jennifer Lord is a creative hair stylist determined to change the perception of natural hair. Along with her commitment to social justice, she’s worked behind the curtain of some of the country’s most exclusive runway shows during New York Fashion Week and recently styled for The Met Gala, 2021. Jennifer entered the theatre industry in 2019 and is now educating hair stylists in theater, film and television on the historical components of natural hair. She is also currently working on the Showtime production, Three Women.
Lisa Padovani is a five time primetime Emmy nominee and a two time costume Design Guild winner whose work has contributed to some of the most memorable characters on screen. Her many film and television credits include “Far From Heaven”, “I’m Not There”, “The Departed”, “Shutter Island”, “Mad Men”, “Boardwalk Empire”, “Gotham”, “Dirty Dancing”, and “Sneaky Pete”.
Simone Tetteh is an entrepreneur with several years experience in fashion, content creation, and digital marketing. Simone began her career at American Vogue as a Booking Editor, working with the best hair stylists, make-up artists, and models in the fashion industry. She then moved on to the tech world, spending over 4 years at Amazon creating and managing content for their fashion verticals. Simone started Bonnti with her childhood friend Maude Okrah. The two built Bonnti into a successful on-demand platform working with clients such as Essence, Ebony, CBS, Warner Bros. BET and more. Simone and Maude created Black Beauty Roster as a means to create greater equity for Black beauty creatives in the TV, Film & Editorial world, while also increasing education around textured hair and darker complexions to the industry at large.
