Are you interested in a career working in film and television? Learn the skills needed to work on set in our 2019 Crew Boot Camp.

Whether you have previous experience, or are new to the industry, this 3.5 day training led by experienced industry professionals will prepare you for the exciting and fast-paced world of production and working on set.

Workshop is limited to 25 participants.

DAY 1: 6PM-8:30PM

DAY 2: 8AM-5PM

DAY 3: 8AM-5PM

DAY 4: 8AM-5:30PM

This immersive bootcamp experience guides participants through the fundamentals of working in the industry and on a set, including script breakdowns, script continuity, who’s who on a call sheet, preparing for a day’s work, chain of command and other key production assistant roles. Once the fundamental foundation is set, the training moves on to a mock shoot where participants will have hands-on experience in several key film departments, and train directly with industry professionals.

This boot camp will provide trainees with:

  • Hands-on training experience in departments which include camera, sound, grip and electric, art, costume/wardrobe, hair/makeup, script supervision, and production

  • Basic Set 101 instruction so that graduates feel prepared to work on an actual set

  • Techniques for collaborating and working with actors, directors, and other departments

  • An understanding of departmental roles and operations

  • Rental order fulfillment, truck load-in/out, camera logs, departmental particulars, video village set up and breakdown, laying of dolly track, handling coils and cables, operating a boom, prop continuity, and more

Stockade Works is particularly seeking diverse members of the community and women who are typically precluded from jobs in the film production sector.


INSTRUCTORS:

Jesika Farkas is a New York-based production designer. She is a graduate of Bard College and the Interior Design Program from the Fashion Institute of Technology. With over a decade of design experience, and a background working in architecture and interior design, she had the opportunity to design her first short in 2010. It was then she realized that production design was the perfect marriage of her skill set and her love of visual storytelling. Her work has screened at Tribeca, Toronto, Berlin, SXSW and Sundance. Design credits include “Strange Weather” directed by Katherine Dieckmann starring Holly Hunter and Carrie Coon, “One Percent More Humid” directed by Liz Garcia starring Alessandro Nivola, Juno Temple and Julia Garner, and most recently, “Shoplifters of the World” directed by Stephen Kiyak starring Ellar Coltrane (“Boyhood”), Joe Manganiello and Helena Howard featuring 20 tracks by The Smiths. In addition to feature films, Jesika has also designed a diverse range of commercial content for clients such as Microsoft, Uniqlo and Expedia. Jesika currently splits her time between New York City and the historic city of Kingston, NY. It is the birthplace of the innovative O+ Festival, of which she is a founding member and is currently serving as co-director of Art. She continues to design interiors alongside making movies.

 
 

Marian Dealy is a New York based cinematographer who has been working in the film and television industry since 2001. She worked in production/development on shows for HBO, Miramax, the Discovery Channel and the History Channel before going behind the camera in 2008. Marian studied cinematography and lighting at New York Film Academy and Maine Media workshops and recently attended the 1st ASC Masterclass at the American Society of Cinematographers in Los Angeles.

 

Ty Chennault has over 35 years experience working in the film business. Ty has worked his way up through the electrical department on projects ranging from no-budget independent  films to the largest projects imaginable. Highlights include Powder, Interview with the Vampire, Batman, The Dead Don’t Die, and the Saturday Night Live Film Unit.

 

The Award-Winning, Iranian, Sound Mixer, Sam Kashefi began working in the film industry at 17.  Sam rose quickly in Iran, and mixed 8 feature films by the age of 25.3 Looking to expand his reach and scope of work, he relocated to Dubai in 2003 where he mixed for major international productions. In 2013, Sam moved to New York City to continue working with networks like NatGeo, HBO, PBS, Amazon, Netflix and Independent documentaries.

 

Aaron Phillips is a versatile and experienced Cinematographer whose credits span commercial, documentary, music video, TV and narrative work. His passion for cinematography has taken him around the world to film, including personal favorites Japan, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Iceland, South Africa, Bangladesh and Cuba. With expertise in all formats from film to digital, he is equally nimble with small documentary crews to managing large feature and television crews.

 

David Ray Martin is a location manager of feature films for studios including Disney, Columbia Pictures, and Warner Brothers. Movies I have worked on include The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, War of the Worlds, and Cold Mountain.

 

Julie Stalker-Wilde's credits include boom operator for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Z: The Beginning of Everything,” “Rabbit Hole,”  “The Sopranos,” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

 

Vincent Carnevale is a Hudson Valley-based Digital Imaging Technician and Camera Assistant. He is a member of IATSE Local 600. He has worked jobs ranging from feature films, to big budget commercials, to fashion, and everything in between. Vincent has a B.S. in Radio/TV Production from SUNY New Paltz with a minor in Computer Science.

 

Lisa Padovani is a five time primetime Emmy nominee and a two time Costume Design Guild winner whose work has contributed to some of the most memorable characters on screen. Her many film and television credits include “FAR FROM HEAVEN”, “’I’M NOT THERE”, ”THE DEPARTED”, “SHUTTER ISLAND”,” MAD MEN”, “BOARDWALK EMPIRE”, “GOTHAM”,” DIRTY DANCING”  and “SNEAKY PETE”.

 

Brian Barney is a freelance camera assistant working professionally within the film & TV industry and is based in New York’s scenic Hudson Valley.

 

Alanna McDonald began her film career as a truck driving Art PA on major commercials in NYC. From there she moved into the photography world and began tabletop prop styling for People and Essence magazines. She returned to film and spent a year building at a set shop in Brooklyn. Now she works primarily on feature and short films. She has worked in nearly a dozen states but is proud to, very recently, call the Hudson Valley her home.

 

Mike Yaeger is dedicated to the world of film sound. A recent graduate from the School of Film and Animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Mike has experience in both production and post work. He has worked professionally as a sound utility and has also acted as a sound mixer on a few short films. He is pursuing work as a utility or boom operator.

 

John M. Tyson’s love of film and storytelling led him to the world of filmmaking at an early age. John started in the backstage of Philadelphia’s premeire theater scene while studying at the Walnut Street Theater and the The Wilma Theater. Since then, John has worked in the film business in many capacities. Editor, Screenwriter, Producer, and as one of the top 1st Assistant Directors on a broad range of projects including feature films, TV series, commercials, promos, documentaries, and PSAs. John Tyson graduated with a Master of Arts from The London International Film School and is a member of the Directors Guild of America. He has been bonded through Film Finances and is available for work worldwide.
