Are you interested in discovering the ins and outs of Payroll Accounting for Television and Film? Learn detailed skills from industry professionals in our Online Production Payroll Accounting Workshop! This course is a fit for those already working in the industry seeking more profound insights into production payroll and people with experience in accounting, budgeting, and finance looking to transition into the entertainment field.

Following the trajectory of an actual production, this five session virtual and in person course will provide you with the tools necessary to advance your career in production payroll across all entertainment mediums.

This workshop will provide trainees with knowledge of:

  • Documents and forms necessary and relevant to production payroll
  • The skills necessary to assist a key payroll accountant 
  • The production payroll process from start to finish, with tips on how to stay organized 
  • An overview of software, labor laws, union contracts, and production tax credits

Upon successful completion of this intensive workshop, participants will be referable for payroll clerk positions on upcoming film and television productions.

Full and partial scholarships are available.

Pre-requisites: No film/tv production experience is necessary. Some Excel or equivalent program a plus, as well as a detail-oriented mindset. This workshop is open to all community members, and is specifically seeking candidates from diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, women, and those historically excluded from the film industry.

INSTRUCTORS

Lara DeLeo – LEAD INSTRUCTOR

Lara DeLeo has been working in production payroll since 2014. She has worked on both television and feature films such as Netflix’s The Irishman, Amazon’s Modern Love Season 1, and Netflix’s upcoming Spaceman. She is an active member of IATSE local 161, the union that represents New York’s production accountants, and is on the Leadership Team for The Accounting Alliance, a volunteer-run organization of production accountants whose goal is to share resources and collaborate for better working conditions, regardless of union status, jurisdiction, or location. She is from the Hudson Valley and currently splits her time between Kingston and NYC.

Alysse Rossner – GUEST INSTRUCTOR

Alysse’s career began out of college and into the production office. For years she was a union
production coordinator on single and multi-camera shows. Credits include: Are We There Yet?,
Friends of the People, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.

To expand her production knowledge, she transitioned to union accounting. This shift allowed
her to focus on analyzing costs and continue to foster relationships with crew, studios,
production companies, and vendors. Accounting credits include: Living with Yourself, Bruised,
and Netflix’s Spaceman.

Accounting protocol is driven more and more to go digital and Alysse is committed to creating
efficient digital workflows that will benefit accountants and increase efficiency. In 2022 she
joined Big Indie Pictures Post Accounting and Finance. In her leisure time she upcyles furniture
through functional design.
